Alan Wake Game Art

I spent a year at Microsoft Game Studios Publishing Division in Redmond, which was basically "XBox Headquarters". I was part of a small, internal team that worked on a variety of projects and tasks - from research and development, prototyping, character, vehicle and environment design, to some actual game art production.

I spent a few months helping out on Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake. Below are some of my favorite pieces. I've got a few more models that I'll show as well on my actual, official website. Whenever I get around to getting that thing updated........

Motivated!

So, now that I have a fancy new blog, and I can post work as soon as I'm done with it, I've been motivated to get some stuff actually finished and posted! Here's a 3D illustration that I was working on about a year ago. I was close to finished with it before I got sidetracked with whatever happened to distract me at the time. So I spent the last few evenings finishing it up. It's a pod racer type vehicle, loosely/initially based off of some concept art by Doug Chiang. Modeled in Max, Rendered in Maya, terrain done in ZBrush, assembled in Photoshop.

And here's some shots of the ship; high res and low res, "in game" version.........

And a the raw render out of Maya........

Let's get this party started!

So, I think I'll get the ball rolling here with a sculpture I've been working on. I don't really have any traditional sculpting experience, and it's still a work in progress, but I figure it's done enough and interesting enough to show. It's based off of a concept created by one of my all time favorite creature artists, Carlos Huante.

This was created during an awesome week long sculpting workshop onsite at Anatomy Tools in California, with Carlos teaching and giving us the lowdown on his methods, thoughts and ideas etc. He was assisted by Andrew Cawrse, who is also an amazing teacher and instructor. Andrew really busted his ass to make this a great workshop, and Carlos was super cool too. I look forward to returning for another one.

Welcome to my humble art blog

Well, I finally got around to getting a blog going. I figure this will be a good place to share all my  artistic explorations, experiments, doodles and sketches - anything that might not be an official portfolio piece, but (hopefully) will still be worth showing and sharing. And maybe a some portfolio pieces too, now that I think about it.  My virtual sketchbook.

Although I do a lot of hard surface modeling for work (vehicles and such), my true interest and passion is designing and modeling creatures and characters. So that's probably most of what you'll see here. Who knows, maybe someday when I grow up, I'll be a professional creature & character artist. You never know........Thanks for stopping by and checking out my work.
